40s Thea Tewi Dress
Vintage 40s designer Thea Tewi polka dot and ruffled nightgown or slip dress! Extremely rare designer, her items are hard to find and the designer donated two items at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1948. She was named America's Top Lingerie Designer in 1947. Her designs were referred to as "naughty-nice lingerie." The sleeves and center bust has ties to gather the fabric and adjust to your size. Sweetheart neckline. The sleeves are doubled ruffled. The bust and sleeves has silk polka dots on the tulle. The back has a tulle scoop back and ruffles from the sleeves stands out depending on tightness. The rest of the slip is made what feels like silk, rayon, or a blend. After research, this designer worked with luxury fabrics but I do not want to do a burn test to confirm anything. The dress was carefully hand stitched and every seam allowance was closed by hand. Priced according to age and true rarity. Flaw(s) minor dinginess on the silk polka dots but nothing significant. In great condition for it's age!
